I can't believe I haven't posted the work of John Pusateri before! He makes beautiful images of dead birds (lithographs, drawings, and photographs) and of insects and animals and people. His sense of light and color are astounding.

Walmor Correa
Oh my goodness. I almost posted Walmor Correa's entire portfolio, I love so much of his work so much. (It may look like I still posted a lot, but, well, this is me trying to exercise some restraint.) Anatomical drawings, pencil, color, insects, imaginary creatures, ahh, all gorgeous!

Gorgeous linework and watercolor washes by flaf on flickr. Discovered, I believe, via kizioko on tumblr, though I can't find the exact post at the moment.

Wendy Macnaughton
I love, love, love San Francisco illustrator Wendy Macnaughton's wonderful lines, transparent colors, and handwriting. Really powerful. I highly recommend scrolling through her blog and seeing how her work has changed and developed.
I discovered her work via teaching literacy's post linking to her popular Meanwhile, at the San Francisco Public Library series (which I have since seen linked just about everywhere!).

Carrie Marrill
Wonderful paintings, gouache, and watercolor work from Carrie Marrill. I love all of her subject matter: animals, birds, strange scenes with cross-sections, plants, mushrooms, things on white backgrounds. She has such a lovely and diverse body of work, it was hard to choose what to post. Check out her website for sure.
I originally learned about Carrie Marrill via but does it float.
