update to naomibardoff.com

One of the things I did in my super-busy last month was revamp my website! (Again!) And then, like the art I was working on then, I was too busy to post about it. I liked my old design, with the hand-drawn touches, and while my web design experience means I'm perfectly able to update it, I found that I didn't do so as often as if it were more standardized. So here's the new, hopefully-easier-to-navigate, naomibardoff.com!

(PS: Yes, this is another one of those posts that will be a duplicate for those of you who also subscribe to my art blog. Won't happen again for a while, probably!)

Luci Everett, design & illustration work

The loose, drippy work of Luci Everett. I found her illustration work on {frolic!} and Miss Moss. Her design work is fantastic as well: it's refreshing to see some stylistically messy and expressive in the design world, which so often seems to be all about perfectly-rendered computer-aided flat-as-a-pancake colors. Which I love too! But can be frustrating when I try to attain it. This fresh, loose work is inspiring to me both for the vibrant visuals and this wonderful reminder to stick with what I love doing and doing well.

decemberists dictionary

It's been a number of months now since I made this dictionary of Decemberists' words for a friend. I kept putting off posting it until I knew it had reached him in New York, and then I got distracted. I made it this summer while I was fiddling around with Adobe InDesign. The Decemberists theme was a good excuse to use tons of over-the-top fonts, and it was a fun way to practice the software. It would be fun to case it in someday (that is, "cover" it with a bookboard and bookcloth cover or case), though it's really only pamphlet sized.

Amanda Vissering

I finished building Amanda Vissering dot com, a portfolio website for my friend and roommate Amanda.

Also did a brief update to Naomi Bardoff dot com, mostly to reflect this new site, new Green Living designs, and a couple new drawings. A big update is coming soon.

Dunn Right header and illustration

I've been meaning to post this for weeks! A while ago I made a header for my friend and former roommate, Lauren, for her blog Dunn Right. I loved doing freehand drawing and illustration for the web, it'd be fun to do more.

naomibardoff.com redesign & update complete

First of all, I'm sorry for those of you who subscribe to both this and naomese, because you'll be getting almost perfectly duplicate posts about this.  Duplicate posts like these will happen only very rarely, when the content of the two blogs overlap.

As you can see, I've finally finished redesigning and updating naomibardoff.com! Please browse around the site, check out the galleries, and definitely let me know if you run into any issues. If you do, leave a comment here or email me at naomi (dot) bardoff (at) gmail (dot) com.

Also, for anyone who emailed naomi (at) naomibardoff (dot) com, I'm sorry if you didn't get a reply, or didn't get one for basically ever. I've changed the contact information on my website to match the email I actually use (the same one as above) and will also be checking my domain email with more frequency.

updated my blog designs

I've been absent this week in part because I've been working on a huge overhaul of naomibardoff.com. It's still a ways off, but in the meantime, I've given my art blog a much-needed overhaul. (Now if only I could get to posting in it more often!) It's also a bit of a preview of the general aesthetics for the new naomibardoff.com.

I've also given this blog a quick facelift. The basic layout is the same, I've just tweaked it a bit to match my other blog and generally be cleaner and sleeker.

Laura Battle

I just finished a fun web design project, making a website for Laura Battle, who I had as a painting and drawing professor at Bard. She's an amazing professor and artist and person, it was really delightful to get to work with her on this site.

The gallery is built using zenphoto, which is currently my favorite script for a gallery CMS. Just simple and beautiful and straightforward to customize. (I also really like gallery and plogger).

Going Forth by Night, 117" x 22", ink, 2009

Seventh Hour, 18x103", ink, 2009

Crossing, 22x30", graphite on grey paper, 2007

Time piece, 22x30", graphite on grey paper, 2007

Love Letter, etching, 24x36", edition of 20, 2009-10

tumblr archive

When did the layout for the tumblr archives change? I love it! The archive for my tumblr looks so pretty.

I love seeing all the photos I've posted together. I seem to have a thing for whitespace, huh?

I love how the whitespace in this section is making some of the images merge. I wish there were a way to see tagged things this way.
