Gnomes by Rien Poortvliet and Wil Huygen
Gnomes by Wil Huygen, illustrated by Rien Poortvliet, has been one of my favorite books for a long time. I love the style of watercolor, the handwriting, the diagrams, and the scientific field guide style. It was hard to pick which spreads to scan!
What a lovely surprise to see one of my favourite books on one of my favourite blogs :) I had no idea this book was available outside of the Netherlands.
I re-read this almost monthly as a child. I love the picture with the deer that you scanned, and also the one with the little gnome girl and the rabbit, the one where they're naked, the stories at the end... All so beautiful, pure, endearing and creative.
Thanks for bringing back so many happy memories :)
This book looks so sweet and enchanting, I especially love the little breakfast table spread, brings back lovely memories of my favourite childhood books, thanks for sharing :) *Trudy ~ Veggie num num
It reminds me of "The Troll Book" by Michael Berenstain. I'm actually looking at getting a copy of this book when I purchase a copy of "The Troll Book." I loved The Troll Book as a kid and me and my friends went hunting for trolls in the woods when we were in elementary school
Hi, Very Good Article, Rien Poortvliet not only painted childrens stories. He loved drawing and painting about ordinary life, hunting and nature. He made these paintings accessible to millions of people by selling books with these paintings. Read more at http://rien-poortvliet.emyspot.com/#hzycsMVqQ5jPdqO5.99
